Taylor Swift Denies Being Jealous of Selena Gomez for Getting Married Before Her

Global pop superstar Taylor Swift has dismissed rumors suggesting she was jealous of her best friend and fellow singer, Selena Gomez, for getting married before her.
Reports had circulated online that Swift made a joke about Gomez “beating her to the altar” during her wedding speech. However, the Cruel Summer hitmaker has now clarified that the rumors are false.
Swift Speaks on The Tonight Show
Speaking during her recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Taylor Swift explained that she indeed gave a speech at Gomez’s wedding but ensured that her remarks were focused entirely on the bride and groom.
“I did do some light teasing about the way we dressed in 2008, the year we met. It was the year of deep, deep V-necks. It was the year of colorful skinny jeans,” Swift told Fallon.
She emphasized that she made a point not to mention anything about her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, contrary to reports claiming she referenced it during the ceremony.
“I talked about how happy I am for her and just how beautiful it’s been to get to be a part of her life, but I did not make it about me,” she added.
Selena’s Private Wedding to Benny Blanco
Selena Gomez officially tied the knot with American music producer Benny Blanco in a private ceremony held in late September. Taylor Swift, one of her closest friends, was in attendance along with a few celebrity guests.
The wedding, which has since become a trending topic on social media, saw emotional tributes and memorable moments — but according to Taylor, none of them included any jokes about jealousy or competition.
A Longstanding Friendship
Swift and Gomez have been close friends for more than a decade, supporting each other through career highs, breakups, and personal milestones.
Taylor described being part of Selena’s wedding as a “beautiful experience”, adding that she felt grateful to witness her friend’s happiness.
Why She Didn’t Tell Ed Sheeran About Her Engagement
During the same interview, Taylor also shared why she hadn’t informed her longtime friend Ed Sheeran about her engagement to Travis Kelce. She explained that Sheeran doesn’t own a phone and can only be reached through email or FaceTime, making communication a bit old-fashioned.
